I think I've looked at this bed about a thousand times for inspiration! It is so cozy and comfy looking... ok I have to stop now. This cold is kicking my butt and it's hard enough for me to stand upright let alone not wish that I was sleeping! mmmmmmm sleeping....

So living with this gross carpet for so long, Steve and I learned a few things. We learned that beige carpet at a door is not smart. So our first order of business was to put tile at the door. We wanted a fairly large space of tile for obvious reasons. First, sometimes more than one person comes in the door at one time! Weird, I know! We do have more than one friend! Second, We thought someday maybe we could put a bench at the door to take our shoes on and off, and we don't want it half on the tile and half off the tile... ok maybe this wasn't such an obvious reason, but it's a reason! So Steve and I mapped out our pattern/space, and then he started ripping! It was so glorious to see that hideous carpet coming up!
I apologize for the crappy iphone photos!
the pile of ugly baseboards, the sign that work is actually happening!
Now, if I had all the money in the world? Well first I wouldn't be living in a 1 bedroom condo, but second I would have had these concrete floors finished. That however, was not an option in our world, so we figured that we would pull all the spaces together and use the same flooring that we used in the bathroom. Smart right!? I can't wait to show you how excellent it looks! (and how clean!! that's my favorite part!!)

I haven't done an actualy design post in awhile, and that makes me sad. We've been putting a lot of our energy into finishing up renovations on our condo (which I'll be sharing soon!), leaving me very little time to put into being creative! Last night I happened to have a bit of free time to just sit and browse. Have you heard of a site called FAB.com? It's got a little bit of everything but obviously my favorite part of the site is their home decor. Some of their furnishings and accessories are so different! I love when a site can offer wild and outrageous pieces that you don't often see. I found this bed frame last night and new I had to design a room around it. How fabulous is it?! I would feel like a bad ass goddess going to sleep in that bed every night!
I have mixed this bed in with a LOT of pieces from One Kings Lane... again. I just couldn't resist! It was like every piece I looked at on OKL just coordinated with this bed spectacularly! I think I've been watching too much Gina Marie on Big Brother lately, my mords and getting all wixed up and I'm saying crazy shit!! TGIF!

We've been super busy around here, carpet was installed in our bedroom today and we are trying desperately to get this condo finished!! We are so close I can taste it! Just a few more details to finish up and then we might just be able to sit back and enjoy our hard work for awhile!! Just about the only thing that I have done in the last few days besides renovations, is download new music... surprise surprise?? Not likely. As you know, I religiously check out new music Tuesdays and this Tuesday I was especially excited as two new albums came out that I COULD NOT WAIT FOR! Chris Young's "AM" and Justin Moore's "Off the Beaten Path". I have already listened to each album back to front a couple of times, so I thought I would share my favorite songs from both albums so far! I highly recommend downloading both, I swear you can't go wrong!!

and now I need your help. I need to get new hardware to spruce up these bad boys just a little bit more, and I cannot decide! It's just too hard. I pick one, and then I find another that I love too, and on and on it goes! So I have been perusing all around the world wide web and have come up with these finalists... I think...
I really love the crystal knob, but it might be a bit too "fancy"... The curtians have a bit of a nature theme to them so maybe the rocks or the bird would actually likely be perfect.. but too shiny? See?? this is soo hard!!! Help!!

instead of my office computer screen...Every time I'm out at the farm, it just gives me more drive to get out of this city!! The country is calling me!!

This recipe is actually super, super easy. It's basically sugar, corn syrup and peanut butter spread over rice krispies.
You heat up the sugar and corn syrup and then add the peanut butter. Then you add the entire mixture to the rice krispies! It's literally that easy!
Then eat and ENJOY!! And seriously.. good luck not eating the entire thing in one sitting!here!
I removed the drawers, and removed the top (yes it comes off?!?), and then I started sanding them down just a touch, just to take the sheen off and to get rid of any obvious scratches. Now I might as well divulge a dirty little secret here. These nightstands are temporary, so I did not do the necessary "repairs" on the one nightstand that I probably should have. The top of Steve's nightstand had a chip out of the top. It's particle board so the chip looks kind of like cardboard when you rip it in half.. does that make sense? Anyways, I had NO idea how I would even begin to repair that, so I left it and just painted it over. It does not look horrible and you cannot see it unless you look for it, but I know it's there. I'm ok with that since they are a temporary fix! Someday we'll have big people nightstands ;). Now, back to my process. After sanding, I just used a generic furniture primer:
and a smaller, soft brush and did two coats of primer. I waited about an hour inbetween coats. I also found that the primer dried really quickly while painting it on, so next time around I may try something a little different, especially if it's a larger piece! I will say though, it definitely made painting easy, I was worried that I didn't sand the nightstands enough and that the paint would not adhere very well even after the primer. Well I guess I don't know that much about painting?? The primer was excellent. It made for a great undercoating..so maybe the quick drying was ok if it covers well?? I'm learning!!
After two coats of primer I started painting. I used Benjamin Moore's Juneau Spring, but had it done at Rona with their Sico paint:
This is a terrible picture because clearly I was not prepared and took pictures of the paint cans AFTER all my painting... lesson learned, but you get the idea! After one coat... this is what I had, and I have to admit that it scared me.. just a touch. I always seem to forget that the paint dries darker... THANK GOODNESS!
It was covering really well though. It only took me two coats of paint and after it dried overnight, I was definitely in love!! The color is so different from anything that I have ever used in my own decor, and I LOVE THAT!
After letting them dry for a solid 48 hours, I put a clear coat on the top piece only. I figured that the top piece is the only part of the nightstand that really gets any traffic, and besides, I wanted them FINISHED, so that I could put them back in the bedroom. Selfish?? I don't care!! HA! I wanted them in the bedroom so I could see and show off how pretty they are... and here they are now! In all their glory!!
Isn't it a beautiful sight?? I'm so very proud, and they are a definite improvement!! I guess I should show you a before eh?? Wow...
There, see?? much better!! Oh I'm just as proud as punch... WOOHOO!!

Nothing terrible, besides that unnecessary countertop over the toilet ugh.. but nothing special either!
AND NOW!!! It looks like this:
(I swear it's not that dark in there!)
I am so happy with how it turned out. For our first major renovation together I'd say we did a pretty damn good job! We tried to make it as neutral as possible for future purchasers (fingers crossed!) and tried to keep it as simple, but with as much storage as we could fit in a small space. I would still like to put some shelves up above the toilet,or maybe even just some artwork of some sort...and I'd love to get a fun rug like this to add a bit of color to the space. All in all, i'm very happy with how everything turned out and I just plain LOVE having a functioning bathroom again!

How gorgeous Are the fabrics we chose?
The plan is to make this circle scarf... and B has left all the sewing up to me... am I nervous? A little... but I should be able to sew a straight line I'm sure!
I also painted our nightstands....yes in the middle of our living room! I was a little bit scared of the color after the first coat, but after an overnight dry, I LOVE THEM!! I cannot wait to get them back into the bedroom and show you how great they look! fingers crossed!
All in all, a great weekend! I hope yours was just as great! Happy Monday!
