I'd Rather Be....

Today I would WAY rather be in bed. Any bed would do really, but this one seems especially nice.
via pinterest

I think I've looked at this bed about a thousand times for inspiration! It is so cozy and comfy looking... ok I have to stop now. This cold is kicking my butt and it's hard enough for me to stand upright let alone not wish that I was sleeping! mmmmmmm sleeping....

Brrrrr... It's Almost Cold Outside!

I think it's about time for another Etsy roundup. It's fall, the leaves are turning, the nights are getting cooler, and I'm needing... blankets. In this country, you can NEVER have enough blankets. I cannot think of anything I enjoy more than cuddling up on my couch when it's frigid outside, with a good book, a couple of candles burning, and a cup of hot chocolate. I hate that I'm about to say this, but I almost kind of can't wait for winter now... dirty words? So here are some of the blankets that I have been "favoriting" on Etsy, please don't buy them or I might be super jealous and a little bit sad.

Next Phase..

Ok everyone out there that happens to check out this blog page every once in awhile! Today I'm going to start showing you the next step in our condo renovations... the flooring! This was the part that I was looking the most forward to. This was where we got rid of the nasty, disgusting, builder beige carpeting that had inhabited our condo since the 80's, living through who knows how many different people.

So living with this gross carpet for so long, Steve and I learned a few things. We learned that beige carpet at a door is not smart. So our first order of business was to put tile at the door. We wanted a fairly large space of tile for obvious reasons. First, sometimes more than one person comes in the door at one time! Weird, I know! We do have more than one friend! Second, We thought someday maybe we could put a bench at the door to take our shoes on and off, and we don't want it half on the tile and half off the tile... ok maybe this wasn't such an obvious reason, but it's a reason! So Steve and I mapped out our pattern/space, and then he started ripping! It was so glorious to see that hideous carpet coming up!

I apologize for the crappy iphone photos!

the pile of ugly baseboards, the sign that work is actually happening!

Now, if I had all the money in the world? Well first I wouldn't be living in a 1 bedroom condo, but second I would have had these concrete floors finished. That however, was not an option in our world, so we figured that we would pull all the spaces together and use the same flooring that we used in the bathroom. Smart right!? I can't wait to show you how excellent it looks! (and how clean!! that's my favorite part!!)

Forest Green?

I noticed the other day that House Beautiful had named Forest Green as their color obsession of the week. I thought I would try my hand at using this beautiful color in this weeks version of One Piece, Two Looks. I found this beautiful Slipper chair while browsing West Elm online. I love the lines and the soft velvet. When will West Elm come to Winnipeg? Maybe after writing this I'll go and give West Elm a shout and see what the hold up is!

I'd Rather Be...

I think I'm suffering from withdrawal... It's been 3 weeks since I was at the cabin and oh how I miss it! I miss the peace and quiet, the calm and relaxation... can I please just leave work right now and head out there? No one would miss me would they? Happy Monday everyone, where would you rather be?

Bad A** Goddess!

I haven't done an actualy design post in awhile, and that makes me sad. We've been putting a lot of our energy into finishing up renovations on our condo (which I'll be sharing soon!), leaving me very little time to put into being creative! Last night I happened to have a bit of free time to just sit and browse. Have you heard of a site called It's got a little bit of everything but obviously my favorite part of the site is their home decor. Some of their furnishings and accessories are so different! I love when a site can offer wild and outrageous pieces that you don't often see. I found this bed frame last night and new I had to design a room around it. How fabulous is it?! I would feel like a bad ass goddess going to sleep in that bed every night!

I have mixed this bed in with a LOT of pieces from One Kings Lane... again. I just couldn't resist! It was like every piece I looked at on OKL just coordinated with this bed spectacularly! I think I've been watching too much Gina Marie on Big Brother lately, my mords and getting all wixed up and I'm saying crazy shit!! TGIF!

I'm in love with another man... or two...

We've been super busy around here, carpet was installed in our bedroom today and we are trying desperately to get this condo finished!! We are so close I can taste it! Just a few more details to finish up and then we might just be able to sit back and enjoy our hard work for awhile!! Just about the only thing that I have done in the last few days besides renovations, is download new music... surprise surprise?? Not likely. As you know, I religiously check out new music Tuesdays and this Tuesday I was especially excited as two new albums came out that I COULD NOT WAIT FOR! Chris Young's "AM" and Justin Moore's "Off the Beaten Path". I have already listened to each album back to front a couple of times, so I thought I would share my favorite songs from both albums so far! I highly recommend downloading both, I swear you can't go wrong!!

You're a knob...

Best title I've come up with yet? I think so!! So you have all seen my B-E-A-utiful nightstand:

and now I need your help. I need to get new hardware to spruce up these bad boys just a little bit more, and I cannot decide! It's just too hard. I pick one, and then I find another that I love too, and on and on it goes! So I have been perusing all around the world wide web and have come up with these finalists... I think...

I really love the crystal knob, but it might be a bit too "fancy"... The curtians have a bit of a nature theme to them so maybe the rocks or the bird would actually likely be perfect.. but too shiny? See?? this is soo hard!!! Help!!

I'd Rather Be...

Saturday I went out to "the farm" to do some mowing and clean up the garden... aka picking everything that's left! Lets just say that today... I'd rather be back on that lawn mower looking at this..

instead of my office computer screen...Every time I'm out at the farm, it just gives me more drive to get out of this city!! The country is calling me!!

Yum..Seriously YUM!

I pin a LOT of food on Pinterest. Very rarely do I actually make the food that I pin... I would really like to change that! So I started with a sweet treat.. and why not? they are my favorite, so it only makes sense! Now, I must warn you that this sweet treat is highly addictive and Steve and I literally ate a quarter of the cake in one evening. Don't say I didn't warn you! Is that too many warnings?!

This recipe is actually super, super easy. It's basically sugar, corn syrup and peanut butter spread over rice krispies.

You heat up the sugar and corn syrup and then add the peanut butter. Then you add the entire mixture to the rice krispies! It's literally that easy!

Then eat and ENJOY!! And seriously.. good luck not eating the entire thing in one sitting!

Find the recipe here!

Well, I'm getting there, slowly but surely!! The bedroom redo is coming along nicely! The most recent addition has been the newly painted nightstands! I LOVE THEM! I know, I know, you have heard it a few times now. Well, today you get to see all my hard work! Painting furniture is not easy, but it sure is worth it! Ok maybe I should rephrase that, it's not really hard it's mostly just time consuming! It likely took me about 12 hours altogether to completely finish them. Like I said though, SO worth it!

I removed the drawers, and removed the top (yes it comes off?!?), and then I started sanding them down just a touch, just to take the sheen off and to get rid of any obvious scratches. Now I might as well divulge a dirty little secret here. These nightstands are temporary, so I did not do the necessary "repairs" on the one nightstand that I probably should have. The top of Steve's nightstand had a chip out of the top. It's particle board so the chip looks kind of like cardboard when you rip it in half.. does that make sense? Anyways, I had NO idea how I would even begin to repair that, so I left it and just painted it over. It does not look horrible and you cannot see it unless you look for it, but I know it's there. I'm ok with that since they are a temporary fix! Someday we'll have big people nightstands ;). Now, back to my process. After sanding, I just used a generic furniture primer:

and a smaller, soft brush and did two coats of primer. I waited about an hour inbetween coats. I also found that the primer dried really quickly while painting it on, so next time around I may try something a little different, especially if it's a larger piece! I will say though, it definitely made painting easy, I was worried that I didn't sand the nightstands enough and that the paint would not adhere very well even after the primer. Well I guess I don't know that much about painting?? The primer was excellent. It made for a great maybe the quick drying was ok if it covers well?? I'm learning!!

After two coats of primer I started painting. I used Benjamin Moore's Juneau Spring, but had it done at Rona with their Sico paint:

This is a terrible picture because clearly I was not prepared and took pictures of the paint cans AFTER all my painting... lesson learned, but you get the idea! After one coat... this is what I had, and I have to admit that it scared me.. just a touch. I always seem to forget that the paint dries darker... THANK GOODNESS!

It was covering really well though. It only took me two coats of paint and after it dried overnight, I was definitely in love!! The color is so different from anything that I have ever used in my own decor, and I LOVE THAT!

After letting them dry for a solid 48 hours, I put a clear coat on the top piece only. I figured that the top piece is the only part of the nightstand that really gets any traffic, and besides, I wanted them FINISHED, so that I could put them back in the bedroom. Selfish?? I don't care!! HA! I wanted them in the bedroom so I could see and show off how pretty they are... and here they are now! In all their glory!!

Isn't it a beautiful sight?? I'm so very proud, and they are a definite improvement!! I guess I should show you a before eh?? Wow...

There, see?? much better!! Oh I'm just as proud as punch... WOOHOO!!

The Moment You've all Been Waiting For!

Well, the time has bathroom reveal! I know you have been very patiently awaiting this day, marking it on your calendar and such! I hope you are as excited to see the space as I am to show it to you! Now just a refresher, here is the "before" shot:

Nothing terrible, besides that unnecessary countertop over the toilet ugh.. but nothing special either!

AND NOW!!! It looks like this:

(I swear it's not that dark in there!)

I am so happy with how it turned out. For our first major renovation together I'd say we did a pretty damn good job! We tried to make it as neutral as possible for future purchasers (fingers crossed!) and tried to keep it as simple, but with as much storage as we could fit in a small space. I would still like to put some shelves up above the toilet,or maybe even just some artwork of some sort...and I'd love to get a fun rug like this to add a bit of color to the space. All in all, i'm very happy with how everything turned out and I just plain LOVE having a functioning bathroom again!

So Many Babies!

There have been a LOT of babies born on these here Prairies lately. And 3/4 of them are apparently friends of Steve and I! We have been buying a LOT of baby gifts lately! Something real good must have happened about 10 months ago ;) In honor of all these little bundles of joy, I thought I would do up a little nursery mood board! It started when I found the pendant lamp on, the lighting on that site is AMAZING! I think Nurseries are the most fun to design because you can be so creative and daring with colors and textures!

Every Tuesday, new music comes out on ITunes. I love going to the "country" section and listening to all the new music that has just been released to the world. Every once in awhile, I will find something a little more mellow than Randy Houser and Justin Moore, whom you will come to learn are my very favorites! I'd like to share with you a few of the more mellow country artists and their songs that I have come to love! Am I sure it's country music? No, but ITunes seems to be ;)

2. Tell Me So - Striking Matches

3. Thinkin Bout You - Rose Falcon

4. The Highway - Holly Williams

My Weekend....

This weekend was a very productive one for me! My friend B and I headed to Fabricland on Saturday morning, and spent too much money on fabric!

How gorgeous Are the fabrics we chose?

The plan is to make this circle scarf... and B has left all the sewing up to me... am I nervous? A little... but I should be able to sew a straight line I'm sure!

I also painted our nightstands....yes in the middle of our living room! I was a little bit scared of the color after the first coat, but after an overnight dry, I LOVE THEM!! I cannot wait to get them back into the bedroom and show you how great they look! fingers crossed!

All in all, a great weekend! I hope yours was just as great! Happy Monday!
