great additions

The goods on Etsy are getting better everyday. I have been "liking" things left right and center lately! There are talented people out there, and I love that they have an outlet! So many original pieces that you just can't find in stores, well stores in Winnipeg anyway!

I have been on the hunt for different wall pieces. I love a good gallery wall as much as the next girl, but I especially love the ones that have more than just prints. The following amazing pieces I have found on Etsy would make a great addition to anyones gallery wall! Damn I cannot wait to have a house to decorate!

i'd rather be...

I have noticed a real trend in my "i'd rather be" posts. All but one have to do with the outdoors. Hmmmm...makes me wonder why I work at a desk job! For today, i'd rather be here:
on my couch, wrapped up our Jets blanket and watching our new apple tv! Does anyone else have this? I know we are likely a little behind in the times, but it truly is glorious! I will admit though that I am a bit of an "apple" snob, so my opinion may be a bit biased, but I can't help it! No more cable bills, no more watching shows on my lap top. Truly living the good life now people!!

alrighty then

Alright, here we go... lets get on with it... the flooring!

After laying the underlay, (properly hehe), we (Steve) laid the rest of the living room and dining room and kitchen in the laminate. It took awhile, as we (and this time I do mean we!!) had to move a lot of the heavier furniture along the way!

There isn't much to tell about this type of flooring. According to Steve, it clicks together fairly easily. The only real issue we had was at the very beggining. Every time he seemed to click and then push a piece in place, it would come apart a touch at the other end. We believe this is simply because there is no real weight to hold the flooring together at the begining. Once we got about halfway through the living room we didn't have much trouble with that any longer. That was the only real issue!

Once we made it to the storage closet in the dining room, we paused for a moment. All that I wanted to do was get the flooring into the closet and keep on moving. So we removed EVERYTHING out of our closet and the mess in the living room just got a lot bigger. It's truly amazing how much stuff you can cram into a rather tiny storage closet!

Once everything was out of the closet, we paused again. The closet was a mess even without all of our "junk" in there. After a bit of back and forth, we finally decided that at the very least it needed a paint job. A little bit more back and forth and I caved and agreed to let Steve rip out the shelves and build new ones. I am glad I did! First though, he ripped out the old ones and then I painted. Then he went to work. I will be the first to admit that they looked about a thousand times better and as Steve put it "you could sleep on these shelves they are so sturdy" (he's handy AND confident)!!

Once we got the shelves installed and the walls painted and the flooring installed in there... oh and the baseboards...

we put everything back in and the living room was looking a little more normal! After that, all that was left was to finish up the dining room and kitchen! I don't know who was more excited to put that last piece in, STeve or myself! Ok, maybe Steve!

Putting that last piece in was a big moment for us. After months of working so hard and having a home in shambles, we were almost there. We could almost put things back together. Actually I believe at this point I was jumping up and down thinking that we COULD put everything back together and then Steve burst my bubble by reminding me that we needed baseboards. CRAP.

this is country music

There's always that one artist that you just always have to see when they come to town... for me that's Brad Paisley. It's not because he's my favorite artist, it's not because I love every single song and own every single album. It's because it's tradition. My friend Carlin and I have gone to see him every time he has come to Winnipeg, so why stop now? I have to say though, he puts on one hell of a show, and somehow we always seem to pick the right seats! When we arrived at the show we noticed what looked like a little stage next to our row. All night we discussed whether he would eventually come back and sing near us, and how we would trample anyone who got in our way to get to see him up close! Low and behold, he made his way over! Swoon.....
I love me a country concert! In honor of Brad putting on such an amazing concert, I'm going to list my top ten Brad Paisley songs... I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I enjoyed this view....

1.Mud On the Tires

2.Outstanding in our Field

3.She's Everything

4.When I Get Where I'm Goin

5.Alcohol

6.Wrapped Around

I'd rather be...

Today I'd rather be anywhere but here... it's gloomy around these parts lately. The days are getting shorter that makes me sleepy. My creative brain escapes me today, so today I'd rather be sitting on a beach, soaking up the sun, relaxing in a hammock, with zero thoughts running through my brain and a Corona in hand. Would anyone like to join me?

i am definitely not pro!

So aproximately two months ago, my friend Bri and I went fabric shopping with one thing in mind... we wanted to make this...the five minute infinity scarf! Brilliant no? So we picked up three different fabrics, got a yard and a half cut of each, and then they all came home with me. Yes, Bri entrusted her fabric to me and my old ass sewing machine!

This tutorial was soooo easy. I literally turned the fabric inside out, pinned the ends together, and sewed a straight line.

This eventually turned into this:

Which turned into this!!

I added the little leather band and I love it even more! Three new scarves in less than a half hour. You can't really beat it!

i love....

Craft shows. I wish it could be my job to wander them. Around this time every year, there is a larger craft show that takes place in the city here. It's called...
It is a lot of local creatives in one space and this years selection was particularly glorious. There's always a great selection of jewelry...it always astounds me that people can make such gorgeousness with their hands! There was also a great selection of art pieces this year as well. One gentleman had the most beautiful oil paintings I have seen in a long time. I was afraid to ask how much they cost though! I mean thousands of dollars would not have stunned me! They were that gorgeous. The home decor was also out in full swing this year. Many great ideas came to my mind and I will be keeping Steve very busy all winter!! Saw in a condo? Yes, we have one and it looks like it's sticking around! Now that I have expounded on the many talents at this years show, please see for yourself below, and if you are in the Southern Manitoba area, I highly HIGHLY suggest checking out this craft show next year! I'll be there with bells on! Again!

one piece two looks

Today's one piece two looks is very different for me. I loved this Reverie Sofa from EQ3. It isn't something I would normally look at, but it just spoke to me for some reason. It's a fun, soft color and I thought it would be a nice challenge for me to use this piece for another "one piece two looks" post. The first look that I created has a rather romantic feel, I think, but with a modern touch. This is not where I was originally going with this look, but it kind of just fell into place that way. I thought with the purple armchair and striped wallpaper it was going in a more fun direction... clearly not! I love it though!!

Ok, now look #2? Completely different. Now let me just say, two nights ago I sat down to write/design this post, and NOTHING was coming to me. I mean nothing. I stared at furniture for over an hour before I simply decided I was not going to produce anything that would live up to my standards. So I closed the computer and went to the couch to watch Castle. Last night? I was on a roll. I mean everything was just falling in my lap. Pieces were coming together rather easily! This is how it happens for me. One day I'll have great ideas and not enough time to bring them to life and then other nights I won't be able to match a sofa and a chair. Just a little insight into my design process! Anyways, this second look, it's a lot more... boho? I'm not really sure what to call it. Definitely more relaxed and almost a 70's feel to it. I would DEFINITELY put this look in my home... I'd likely add a few more bookshelves though... maybe just make it into a library? A girl can dream right?!

a little bit of life

via

What I'm Watching: A LOT of Sons Of Anarchy. Have you seen this show? I can't even tell you why it's so addicting, but it is. Maybe it's the hotty bikers? Yes, that's it.

What I'm Loving: Sons? ok ok, I'll stop. I'm love love loving the cooler nights. My sandals are put away and the sweaters and boots are out! I'm ready for you old man winter!

I wish I could afford: Everything I have "loved" on Etsy. There are some talented people out there, and I have been finding so many things that I love and I wish I could just buy it all. I'm going to have to teach Steve how etsy works so that he knows where to find my Xmas present this year ;)

My Best Purchase Lately: I went to Value Village the other day with my cousin to get her a halloween costume, and I just thought I would take a peak in the old man sweater section. Low and behold I found a navy cable knit sweater for $5.99. I wore it all weekend. I will probably wear it every evening this week. Who would give that away? I'm gonna have to stop by Value Village more often!

Dark and... calm?

I've been seeing a lot of dark walls lately, and that might just be the first thing that I do when we move... paint a wall black. I always thought it was a really dark and moody trend, but I believe that when mixed with the right pieces it can have a very calming and relaxing feel to it. Here's my take on a black wall!

Old Faithful

Yesterday I talked about how I have Kip Moore's "Up All Night" album back on my iPhone. It's an older album, but it's one that I can pick up every few months and still listen to the entire thing over and over again. In honor of that, I thought I would make a little list of some of my all time favorite albums. Those albums that you can listen to front to back and love EVERY single song... one or two might surprise you ;)

1. Dixie Chicks - Wide Open Spaces

2. Deana Carter - Did I Shave my Legs for This?

3. Mariah Carey - Daydream

4. Alison Krauss - Now that I've Found You

5. Shania Twain - The Woman in Me

6. Chris Cagle - Back in the Saddle

7. David Nail - The Sound of a Million Dreams

8. Pistol Annies - Hell on Heels

9. Dustin Lynch - Dustin Lynch

10. Randy Houser - Anything Goes

11. Little Big Town - The Road to Here

Now don't let this list fool you... George isn't on here, but for good reason. I can't pick just one of his albums to listen to front to back!!!!

Little Bit of Life

via
On my iPhone: Sometimes I go back to the oldies. A couple of times a year i'll purchase an album that I just cannot get enough of. I'll listen to it non stop for a couple of months and then i'll forget about it for awhile. Eventually i'll return to it and i'll love it again just as much as I did the first time. For me right now, that album is Kip Moore's "Up All Night" album.

What i'm reading: I'm finishing up "Another Piece of my Heart" by Jane Green, and will soon be starting "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho.

I want to try: I'd love to try my hand at this recipe...but I'm afraid I might eat them all at once :)

I'm dreaming of visiting: I have read numerous blog posts about this hotel in Palm Springs. I'd love to stay there for even one night.. maybe next time we head to Phoenix we'll pop on over to Palm Springs!

I Was Right... Just Sayin..

I left off last at the entrance. We ripped up that carpet and it felt glorious. I'm sure you can just imagine how GLORIOUS it felt to rip up the rest of it. Now let me remind you that this is a one bedroom condo, and we have a lot of stuff. So... for weeks, we were living in our bedroom with our living room jammed in there too. It was uncomfortable and cramped....and dusty... and unorganized and....well you get the idea!
Once we got everything out of the way, we started to rip up that carpet, and the vinyl. It all came up rather easy too and I was really surprised! There wasn't a whole lot of glue besides around the perimeter of the vinyl.
Once we got everything up, we had to scrape it down and prepare it for the new flooring. And then the place was all concrete and we were ready to start laying the flooring. See how excited Steve is to start working some more?!!
Now, I want to start off by saying that I may not have helped very much with the projects in this condo, I was more on the cleaning/decorating/painting/finishing crew. However, I did help to lay the underlay for the laminate and.... without me, Steve would still be laying this underlay. Let me elaborate.

We went about laying the underlay and it must be taped down. Now the long south wall that we started on is not exactly straight...it bows slightly in the middle... which you would never know unless you were laying flooring, or underlay! Now trying to lay the underlay in one long strip was making Steve VERY frustrated. Along comes Kaleigh... "what if we cut the strip into a few pieces?" Steve was hesitant... and I understand that since I am the cleaner/decorator/painter/finisher. After much swearing and well... more swearing, he listened... and I will say that I was right... I swear I'll only say it once! But I will also show a photo to just reiterate ;)

Once the underlay was down? We could start laying our new floor. I was giddy even just seeing the first row down. Ugh it's hard to think back and see what a disaster this place was as I sit here now and stare down at our beautiful new floors and remember all the hard work that we (mostly Steve) put in. It's totally worth it!!!!

Simplicity

With the dawning of a new season, for some reason I always want to purge. I want to go through eveything that I own and donate half of it. Problem is, time is always at a minimum it seems. Instead of actually purging? I thought I'd design a minimalist room.

Is it bad that I'd like to redo our master bedroom already to look like this?? Hmmmm I need a house with more than one bedroom!!

I'd Rather Be...

It's fall. Nights are getting cooler. Is it ok that I'm looking forward to the cooler weather? Is it ok that I'm looking forward to the cold winter nights, with frost on the window, and the wind howling outside? I'm looking forward to it because then I can curl up in a blanket on the couch, light a couple of candles, not feel guilty about being inside and doing nothing but picking up a book and reading it start to finish. This summer has been incredibly busy for us and I'm eagerly waiting a little break. I have a pile of books to start on, and some knitting to learn, and some sewing projects that need my attention!

Why Not?!

I don't know why it never occurred to me, but did you know that you can even buy wallpaper on Etsy? Why not eh? You can get everything else for your design needs on Etsy! After very little searching I have found so many perfect pieces. I would love to put up some wallpaper someday (another thing I never thought I would say!!) but in a condo that we are hoping to sell in the near future, wallpaper probably isn't the best idea! But SOMEDAY! Steve would help me wallpaper wouldn't he?

Now, enjoy these beautiful wallpaper samples from Etsy.... I know I can hardly believe it either!
