i'd rather be blind….

So, you know when you play the "would you rather" game… I always come back to the question, would you rather be deaf or blind? I always choose blind. I could never go through life not hearing music! I think music is the one thing that always calms me. It keeps me sane and I truly don't think I could live without it. As you know, I mostly listen to country music, but I do enjoy a random array. When I was in university, I even listened to classical music while studying…. the reason? I needed some sort of sound, and if it had lyrics I would get distracted and sing along!! Anyway, i'm getting off track. Below I have put together a little Jake Owen playlist… why you ask? Because on Tuesday, Dec. 3, Jake Owen's new album comes out and i'm super duper pumped about it! Below are my favourites from his last few albums. Please enjoy!! Wouldn't you rather be blind too?!

neutral love...

I have been very attracted to neutrals lately on Etsy. I think I have been looking at too many scandanavian design sites!! Is there such a thing as too many? I don't think so ;)

I've chosen a few of my recent favorites to share with you here. I must say, my Christmas list is really growing!! Steve, are you reading this?

you're a knob… the finale

So I finally picked up some new knobs for the nightstands that I painted this summer. If you recall from this post… I had trouble deciding which knobs to use. I originally really wanted to go with white or silver again. However, when I got looking around Hobby Lobby this weekend in the Fargo, I gravitated more towards the darker metals and blacks. It just seemed to fit the scheme better. Now that I have gotten them home and put them on? I love them! They are perfect!! Just finish off the nightstands… see?!
So simple yet so effective. Ok I know it's not that exciting, but it's just one more finishing touch!

a much needed break...

Sometimes it only takes a couple of days of being away from real life to re-energize and re-motivate. Steve and I headed to the states this weekend to get away for a few days and take in a concert. I'm tired right now, but it was so worth it and I feel a new push to get things done and try new things as well! Before I get to sharing some of my new ideas and hopefully new projects soon… I want to relive our weekend with you and share a little gem!

When my friend Bri found out that we were heading to Fargo ND for the weekend, she told me to make sure that I stop in at a little antique shop in Grand Forks on our way, Plain and Fancy Antiques. She said it was amazing, but I had no idea just HOW amazing! They literally had a little bit of everything! A lot of old, a bit of new… some decor, some collectibles… best of all some AMAZING furniture.

How great is this mirror?

Ok, so I took a lot of pictures of the Christmas displays that they had, but I loved how creative they were and how they worked in antiques! Gawd I could have spent hoards of money here! I did take other pictures. Remember I mentioned the amazing furniture?

Just try and tell me that this isn't the most gorgeous thing you have seen today?! Ugh, if only I had thousands of dollars just burning a hole in my pocket.

I was very impressed with Steve's creative side as well! He noticed this little yellow cabinet and right away said…"how cool would this be if you put little hooks inside and hung it on the wall for keys etc." (I think i'm starting to rub off on him)!

Now the next picture is one of my favourites and anyone around that was listening may have thought I was a touch crazy when I saw them… I believe the noises that came out of my mouth were a little…. misleading potentially?? Anywho, after the noises left my mouth, I did manage to tell Steve that when we do move into a house, we will be coming back and buying up each and every one of these bed frames. I have put my foot down.

Now this post is getting a little carried away. We did do there things this weekend other than stop in and spend hours at an antique store. We left a lot of money in stores in exchange for goods and we also ate…a lot… of junk… my stomach is still recuperating! Our main reason for heading down to Fargo though, was to go to see Randy Houser and Justin Moore. It was all we had hoped for! Randy and Justin definitely lived up to our high hopes… I will post more on how much I love them another time ;)

I'm so glad that we were able to get away for a weekend and free ourselves from much responsibility. I had a great time just the two of us. I wish we could make it a monthly event, but we have to get back to work to pay for everything we bought… bah. I hope your weekend was just as eventful!

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm signing off early as Steve and I are heading on a little road trip to take in ANOTHER concert. I'm thoroughly looking forward to a fun, relaxing weekend of shopping, music and not having to clean up after myself ;)

one king's lane beauties...

Almost every piece in this design is from One King's Lane. I know I'm not the only one that loves this site, but am I the only one that checks it everyday and could design a million rooms from it? Again, not likely! I started this room off with the rug. I really had no true direction to go in and then I saw the sofa. A blue sectional sofa, beautiful. And then… the painting. Why not mix in some pink? Sure! See how it all evolves? There is no real rhyme or reason, I just feel it and go with it. One King's Lane definitely helps.. they make it easy to find gorgeous pieces all in one place! Enjoy the eye candy!

I must also mention the beautiful brass lamps… THIS is what I would have LOVED by my bed!! And I believe I officially search for any and all throw pillows from Etsy. There's just such a variety and you can find a pillow somewhere in the Etsy world that will fit in ANY room! I swear!

quick little update...

I haven't done a whole lot else to our bedroom lately. Steve has put up new trim around our windows and it makes a huge difference!!(To me anyway!) I did finally manage to get him to put up our new bedside lamps! It's not exactly what I wanted, but I do quite like it! Ideally I would love to spend a lot more money and get fancy brass or gold, but on a tight budget, these Ikea lamps are definitely doing the trick! So without further a due… here is a sneak peak at the slow, but beautiful progress of our bedroom!

a little bit of life...

 photo OHHAPPYDAY2_zpsbefee078.jpg
I love the sound of...

Rain on a tin roof. I seriously could listen to this constantly. When I was little I had a tape that I played every single night before bed and I called it my "water" tape. I could not sleep without this tape. It was literally the sound of rain and a rushing river. One day, it did that thing where all the "tape" inside let loose and spilled out of the cassette deck and it was ruined...I may or may not have cried. To this day though, that is still my favorite sound... and smell fo that matter!

The best advice I have ever been given:

There's two. I have a very hard time with making decisions, with hurting people's feelings, and making myself feel very guilty. Thus, both of my parent's have given me great pieces of advice that I always come back to... "Take it one step, one day at a time" and "Ask yourself, will it really matter in 5 years?" I often repeat these to myself and it truly does help me relieve some stress in difficult situations.

more pillows... i couldn't resist!

I love pillows and I cannot lie. Seriously. My favorite things I'm pretty sure. If you don't know what to get me for a gift? Just get me a pillow! I'll be happy happy happy! Anyway, getting to the point. I believe that Etsy is THE place to find the most authentic, creative, fun, colorful (I could keep going) pillows. I keep finding more and more to love all the time, so I figured it's about time I share some more of my favorites with you! Enjoy!

manly office..

I was inspired to create a manly office based on this fabulous bachelor pad reveal. It really inspired me to think outside my girly mind and go manly. In the world around me, manly is usually camo, country, and sports affiliated. I would relish the day that Steve said to me, "Kaleigh, can you please design me a manly yet sophisticated office?" I really don't think sophisticated is in his vocabulary but damn a girl can dream! If he did happen to say that, I like to think that this is what his office would look like! If he actually had it his way? The desk, sofa, and drapes would all be decked out in the Winnipeg Jets logo. I'm a lucky girl, aren't I!!

we remember...

It's remembrance day today… a time to remember and to reflect on those who served and died fighting for our freedom and those that continue to do so to this day. Thank you to our veterans past and present. You are all in our thoughts on this day.

oh the wallpaper!

I know you aren't supposed to mix metals, but sometimes breaking the rules just turns out so damn good! I thought I'd switch it up a bit and try my hands at designing another bathroom, you know cause I just miss remodelling ours so much!! I think one of my favourite things in a bathroom is wallpaper. You can put some wicked cool wallpaper in a bathroom and it won't look crazy at all! At least this is my belief anyway! I didn't go crazy with wallpaper here, but I do love this print and I think it has just the right amount of dramatic for a understated bathroom. Wouldn't you agree?!

pretty little girl...

Before I start discussing the B-E-A-utiful room design below, I would like to point out that……

Phew, had to get that off my chest! You can all just imagine how excited I was to hear the news!

Now, back to the task at hand. I designed this room on a whim last night. I saw these curtains on the Joss and Main site, and they were so soft and I am LOVING this peachy/coral color lately . I was initially going to design a living room around them, but then all I could pick out were girly girly detailed items. So, girls room it is! I love everything in this room and I could totally see them working alone with more neutral pieces, but together, even though they are all pretty vibrant, they work well to create that perfect, fun, functional, little girl haven!! Did I say little girl? Cause I’d actually move in tomorrow if someone would let me **cough cough Steven cough cough** I think I have said that about almost every room I have designed so far… Steve is in for a LOT of indecision when we buy a house ;)

latest read

My latest read was very easy, quick, light, and a tiny bit angering at times. Another Piece of My Heart by Jane Green was about a young girl who grew up with an alcoholic mother, and a very caring father who remarried the love of his life. The daughter, like many, resented her new stepmother for the simple reason that she occupied her father's time. Now without giving away too much, the story revolves around this young girl and her coming of age, and the trials and tribulations of a separated family. There were points in the story that I wanted to reach through the pages and strangle the young girl, but I believe that's what makes a story great! I'm not saying this was an epic novel, but it kept my attention, so I can't complain!

one piece two looks….

For this weeks "one piece, two looks" I wanted to use a piece that is very formal and make it seem not so formal, and to use it in a much different way! I think I have truly accomplished this. Look one…

I used this Duke, grey sofa as a settee for a dining set. I paired it with many different metals and wood to make for a beachy feel. The blue rug was put in on a whim… and I think it work! It adds that bold touch of colour that is needed with all the neutral colors and metals.

Look two…

Now I have likely said this before… but THIS is what I want my living room to look like someday! This is it.. right here. I love everything about this room. I love the vintage mixed with new mixed with a bit of retro. It all works so well together! Don't you think?

i'd rather be…

My parents left for Phoenix on Friday …Hi Mom!… and I'm thoroughly jealous. Although, it has been super nice here in Southern Manitoba these last couple of weeks, it definitely hasn't been no 30 degrees and sunny! In other words, today I would rather be back in Phoenix… relaxing in the desert, reading a book with the sun shining down on me…

i've got the blues

I'm trying something a little different today with my Etsy finds… as I seem to be "loving" a lot of blue tones. I've chosen six of my very favorites.. and Steve, if you are reading this…any of them would make great Christmas presents… wink wink!!

musical genius...

Chris Cornell = genius.

Steve and I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Chris Cornell's acoustic show on Tuesday night. Seriously, this man is a musical genius. And not bad looking either ;) The best part about Chris Cornell? He was real. He acted like a normal human being, not a rock god (even though we all see him that way anyway)! He truly was humble and just.... amazing.

As you can likely already tell... I would HIGHLY recommend seeing his acoustic show if you ever get the chance! If you don't get the chance... download his Songbook LIVE album... it's almost as good ;)
