a whole new..... year.... (sung to the Little Mermaid song)...and a little look-a-like...

Hello all! I hope everyone had an amazing Holiday. I know it is not over for you lucky ones, but for some of us... we have to work this week... ugh. The real world... ugh. On a happier note... without sounding too much like i'm 6 years old, I got everything I wanted for Christmas and more! And I spent time with all of the people that really matter in life. It was perfect.

Now, back to our regular scheduled programming! I have a quick little look-a-like for you today. Ok maybe not so much a look-a-like as a... looks a little a like but is also super fun! I love looking at designs for entryways right now... it makes me think that maybe someday in the very near future we can have a functioning entryway!

This entryway is freakin fabulous. It's so eclectic and simple. It's a beautiful welcoming into what i'm sure is a beautiful home.... if only I could find the rest of it to prove myself correct!

Now my version... not quite as gorgeous but just as eclectic! That console table? It's absolutely perfect. A drawer, a place to put their keys... and i'm dreaming again! WE NEED TO FINISH OUR ENTRANCE!!!!!!!! Ok, a broken record, I get it, i'll stop! Happy Monday all!

If you'd like to see a couple other of my look-a-likes... visit here, and here, and maybe here too!

a new year, a new plan...

I want to be more productive. That is my only "New Years Resolution". I don't particularly like resolutions, but I do love lists and I do love plans. So here it is...

I am finally... FINALLY...going to use my Pinterest page for more than just staring at pretty things. I am determined to actually make some of the items on my "to do list" and while i'm at it maybe a few things from the thousands of recipes that I have pinned as well! Each week I plan on tackling at least one project. It may be as simple as a homemade cleaning solution, or as difficult as building a bench... difficult for me anyway! I am super excited about this endeavor, and I will obviously be tracking my progress here. Let's hope that I can keep this resolution... could be pretty interesting! Wish me luck!! Here are some of my favorites that I cannot wait to try!

The simplicity… the gorgeous tile… the rustic feel… it's actually the perfect bathroom. It's clean, simple, fresh, and modern… Can it get any better? Truly. Oh and the best part? It's a bathroom in a beautiful home in Bali. I want to move in.. right now… A girl can dream right?

gallery ideas #1...

I am going to try a new series of posts... gallery wall ideas. We have a lot of blank walls in our home, and I would really love to fill a few of them with fun gallery walls! I think my very favorite galleries are those that do not just include prints... I love the depth and character that different materials and objects can give to gallery walls. Each piece on this wall gives me goosebumps because it's just so damn exciting to look at! Wouldn't you agree?! Have you ever heard of Songza? I'm sure you have… as I am always a little slower than the rest at getting to new technology! Anyway, lately I have really been listening to it a lot… and it's been taking me back in time! I FREAKIN LOVE THAT! As most who know me well know, I love retro music. If I could listen to Prime country every single day of my life, I would be a very happy girl! Sometimes, however, I really LOVE throwing in some retro pop music with my country… yes, you heard me correctly! These are the songs that this girl loved in her youth! Don't get me wrong, country music was, and always will be my first love… but these songs.. they hold a very special place in my heart too. I hope they bring back some great memories for you too!

I love this because….

This room is brilliant. First of all, I would love to know what color is on that table… why have a I never thought about using peach before? See, this is what I love about Pinterest… it shows you things that you may never have ever thought about before. Now lets get back to this room. Peach table, mustard pillows and throw. A seemingly strange combination but it works! Then why not throw in an animal skin rug. The best part? When you say all of those things together… peach, mustard, animal skin… they all sound ridiculous together. Design… it's about taking risks right?! It's about trying new things and finding out that they truly work.. even more? It's about how it makes you feel. This room makes me feel inspired and really happy. I would love walking into this room every day!

all i want for christmas...

Ok family… here it is.. here's my Christmas wish list for this year! Or if you feel so inclined, I will take money too!! Too obvious??

Remember when you were little and you'd get the Sears Wish Book?! If you were anything like me, you'd write down a list for your parents, with page numbers and item numbers listed very clearly. I don't know how many things I ever actually got?! But here is my ode to the Sears Wish Book…

1. Comfiest pants ever? So I have been told... I'd really like to know for myself!! *wink wink*

2. I love this pattern, seems to be everywhere lately! Would love to have it in my hand!

3. I have wanted to read this book for a looong time now! I've heard so many good things about it, but do you think I can ever find it?!

4. These sunnys... YES PLEASE. That is all.

5. Manitobah Mukluks... it's a staple around here really.. on those -40C days... it helps to have slippers you can wear outside ;)

6. I am really hoping Steve can make us a dining table before Christmas, and these are the chairs I would love to put around that table... I have wanted them for a LONG time!

7. A new hobby... why not?!

8. Our bedroom needs more light... I think I have convinced Steve that these are a good idea!

9. Another pillow? ALWAYS.. emerald velvet? How can I not?!

10. Ok, so another one? yes.. I need a mustard pillow... yes Steve, you heard me right.. need... another... pillow..

11. And yes Steve, I need... another... pair... of shoes!!! Ok but for real these can go with anything!!! (size 8 please!)

one piece…two looks...

Is it a sideboard? or is it a dresser?! Who can tell?! Too cheesy?! Well, either way, here's another episode of one piece, two looks! One of my all time favourite things is when someone takes a piece of furniture (or anything for that matter) and uses it in an entirely different way! Here's my take for the day… a dresser, turned sideboard. Now I must say, I have not done such a matchy matchy design in a LONG time. Normally I don't go for such specific color palettes, but for some reason I could not resist!

So, which do you prefer? The rustic feel of the dresser? or the funky feel of the sideboard?

get shit done...

Alright people... I wrote this post in the middle of October.. and it is now the middle of November. What have I gotten accomplished? Not a whole lot! I had a major FAIL with painting the trim and then I guess I just got very discouraged.. and busy.. but I am determined to no longer let either of those be an excuse! So, for the end of November, this is my plan for our bedroom:

1. Finish the trim in the bedroom, all of it.

2. Make headboard

3. Decide what to do for night stands

I am making this list a little bit shorter and a little bit more realistic! If I can't finish all this... then I will hole up in this house for the entire month of December, become a hermit and finish it then ;)

eat here….

Well, how many excuses can someone come up with to not work on their house? ASK ME! ASK ME!! It is almost December and we have accomplished nothing in this house! Granted, we did get to see the one… the only… Garth Brooks!!! I also threw out my back… so there's that. What else… family, friends, etc. etc. I love you all, especially Garth, but I WANNA WORK ON MY HOUSE! I wanna put the door back on our bedroom! HA! Ok, enough complaining. Instead of working on my own home, I am working on designs for other's homes… those who can't do, teach, right?!?

Doesn't this space just make you want to sit down and eat a giant platter of nachos? No? Just me? I think I need food… I believe i'm getting hangry!

feeling refreshed...

Why hello all! How is everyone today?! I am feeling only slightly refreshed. I'd like to say that every part of me is refreshed, but it's mostly just the blog! Do you love it?! My back is failing me, but this blog... it's simple and gorgeous! I'd like to thank blogaholic designs for inspiring me and giving new life to my corner of the world! I hope you all enjoy as much as I do!

the search is over….

I will sit at this computer for hours until I find something that REALLY grabs my attention… or as my grandpa would say.. "makes me wanna grab my ass and scream about it"! Well the photography of Brandon Barre makes me want to do exactly that. He has photographed some GORGEOUS spaces. Behold:

Gorgeous, right?! Check out all his portfolio here… you will NOT be sorry!

velvet…my grandma would be proud...

I remember being a little girl and my Grandma would make me a new Christmas dress, and it was always… VELVET! I HATED IT! Ok, maybe it was the fact that I just hated wearing dresses, but either way, my feelings on velvet have changed! I love how luxurious, and yet so comforting it is! Perfect for a little nursery, right?! And may I say, Anthorpologie is on fire this season… so much velvet, so little time (and money)!!

bright mornings...

The days are getting much shorter around here, so I decided that I could really use a pop of color in my life! Our bathroom is super boring! I have yet to decide what to do in there, but this little ditty that I have conjured up is really making me think that a burst of color might just be the ticket!

How fantastic are these towels!? Seriously! Ok but besides that, I love all the colors in this design and I think they all pop in the right places! I think it would really wake a person up in the morning... might just be what Steve and I need! Hmmm... might have to show him this one... cause we all know he doesn't read this ;)

etsy love love...

Yo Bitches!! (that one's for my mother in law!!) Etsy is on FIRE! The creativity level on that site is insane! If only I could make half the things that I see on there... hmmm a new blog series perhaps? Or is that stealing?! Anywho, check out these fan-tab-u-lous items below...

1. It's almost that time of year around here! That time of year when your hands will literally freeze off if you aren't wearing a fabulous pair of mittens like these!

2. Who thinks of these things? Knit and leather? Two of my very favorite things... if only I thought of it first!

3. So simple, yet so fun! I can just picture a row of these in different colors in a kids room... can you see it?

4. This is the color of pillow I have been searching for... longing for. I found ONE at Ikea the other day, it was on a display sofa, could i find it elsewhere? NOPE! Did I wanna steal it just out of plain anger at Ikea for tempting me? YEP! (I didn't though, don't worry Mom!)

5. This needs to hang over our bed ASAP! I think i'm still in the honeymoon stage!

6. Alright, I want to find whomever made this sofa and kiss them, and then ask if I can snoop inside their brain to figure out where they got the idea, and the stamina to make this beautiful sofa!

7. On a serious note... I need a cute little bowl like this to put my rings in so that I don't lose them in our next meal that I cook for my husband!

little look alike...

I know that this pup is stealing the show, but that bold blue wall is a very close second! When someone uses a bold color in a main room, it makes me swoon. I always want to use bold paint colors, but I always wimp out and choose a more neutral. I know, not very exciting...but I play it a little safer in my own home for some reason! I'm trying really hard to branch out!! Anyway, I haven't done a look-a-like in awhile, and this room clearly caught my eye soo... here's my version...

First thing that I noticed while I was replicating this room? A lot of the main pieces are very neutral... which is perfect since the few colored accents are SO bold. First of all, that rug? Oh how I wish I could find one of those for our home that was under $800... ok under $200 because i'm cheap! (It's seriously next to impossible)! Next, the wall, clearly the boldest part of the room, as already discussed... and finally, those accent pieces.. the throw, the pillows etc. My final thoughts? This room is brilliant and this designer/home owner is brave and I am jealous!

how…how do they do it?

Now that the wedding is over… i'm stressing again. This time it's about the fact that our house is VERY VERY SLOWLY becoming a home… too slowly. Sometimes I will read a blog and seriously wonder how they do it… how do they make time for all these DIY projects and how do they seems to redecorate an entire home in a span of months. Doesn't real life ever get in the way? It took me a three day weekend to paint our bedroom… And it's still not done. I still have to do all the trim and fix a few spots that are truly making me angry because they are not perfect! Then I start to think…I planned an entire wedding in 8 months and did so many DIY projects… is it because I had a timeline? Do I need to start making "to do" lists?

Master bedroom:

1.New duvet cover

2.Hang lights

3.Get Steve to make headboard (oh you guys are going to love this one!!!)

4.New nightstands

5.finish painting all the baseboards

Now if I can finish all of this by the end of October, I will be one very happy girl! Wish me luck!!

It's official....

The wedding is over.... I am a married woman! The best part? All the planning and stress turned into the exact day that we were hoping for! It was a cooler day, ok chilly.... ok.. it was cold.. but the tent warmed up, the band started playing and Steve and I had the night of our lives, one that we will never forget! We owe a lot to our friends and family... If any of you are reading... THANK YOU!!

Now, back to regular scheduled programming!

Today I would like to talk about our living room. We have made a touch of progress, but the ideas that I have are changing daily! We have a sofa, and we have lamps.... THAT'S IT! It's a large room and it's bare. Here's the blank slate...

Oh right.. we have a rocking chair too. Now this photo was taken before the sofa was purchased, as you can see, the green painters tape on the floor was our map out of the actual spot that the sofa is now sitting... Just wanted to make sure it would fit! The sofa in the below design board is the one that we actually bought, and you will notice that I have yet to include any drapery in my design... I am so stuck on what to do with the windows! There are so many, and I think I can honestly say that choosing window treatments is my least favorite... ever. I really should just invest in custom panels so that I get exactly what I want! We'll see!

What do you think? I love love the paint color and just hope I am brave enough to actually pull it off! table.accent table.TV bench.bookcase.pillow.pillow.
