pleasantly pink...

I grew up a tom boy... I had a few girly things but not many. I didn't wear dresses, and I loved to go out and play in the dirt with the boys. Sometimes I think that I am making up for the lack of girly in my life now! Some of my designs really allow the purple and pink in me to scream! This is one of my favorites so far... mostly because of that RUG!! A good rug can make or break a room I believe! This room is so glamorous, and yet it's relaxed.. it doesn't feel like you can't touch anything for fear it might break. To me, that is a successful design... high class in looks yet liveable!

merry and bright….

I love the prairies… wouldn't trade living here for anything but... right now?! I am officially sick of winter… Well not necessarily winter, but snow and blowing snow. I love winter, don't get me wrong, but snow and blowing snow for weeks straight?! It can stop any time it wants now!! I'd love it if the weather just went to a balmy -10 and stayed there until March!! Then I could actually ENJOY the outdoors here in Manitoba! Anyway, I figure that in leu of the dreary, white winter wonderland we have around here ( I mean feet and feet and feet of snow!!!) I would design a bright and cheery room!! This room makes me smile and I know for a fact that I would have LOVED this room as a teenager. Teen Kaleigh is happy and giddy just looking at this room right now! This type of room is always fun to design because you can be a little quirky (the animal heads) and yet it doesn't look too childish. I freakin love the side table from CB2… it's industrial feel is softened by the bright green and, well, it's just so much fun! I think anyone around these parts can agree that we all need a little bright and fun in our lives lately! So sit back, relax and enjoy the bright view!

sneaking in a grammar lesson….

You may remember when I designed a super manly office…well here is the girly version. I just could not help myself…a girl needs a lot of girly in her life sometimes! Anywho, I fell in love with the chair from Crate and Barrel and was not quite sure what exactly to do with it. There is something about a blue velvet chair… I hope Steve agrees with me so we can have one someday! Steve?! Yes?! Anywho, I found the desk from Crate and Barrel as well, and then it clicked… how gorgeous would a soft, feminine office be?! Oh and those curtains? Yes they are from The Land of Nod, but seriously, they are perfect here! Last but certainly not least?! The grammar lesson here folks. This "Their, They're, There" print is GLORIOUS! I have wanted it since I first laid eyes on it. Poor grammar is a giant pet peeve of mine, and this sums it all up very nicely into one neat and very pretty package. That print WILL be in my office someday… with a blue velvet chair perhaps!

kitchen goods...

At this very moment, I am listening to Jennifer Nettles' new CD… her voice gives me chills I swear!! What else gives me chills?? SMEG refrigerators. That's right… if I could pick any refrigerator, it would be a SMEG… in black… mmmm yes ma'am! There is just something about that classic shape.. it just speaks to me. Now, I know I have done a lot of retro inspired designs lately, and frankly.. it's my blog so I can design what I like!!! And I thought it was about time I designed a kitchen… and a retro one at that! Now to go with this retro kitchen, I am picturing everything else to be white… maybe some lace curtains over a lovely farmhouse sink window… looking out at a tire swing hanging from an old oak tree… ok... too far?? It's clearly the simple life I crave… someday i'll get back there!

about a boy...

Sometimes I start designing a room and have no idea what direction it is going to take. This one started out with that gorgeous antique desk and somehow evolved from there into a teenage boys room. If I were a teenage boy this is the look I would go for! It's grownup yet funky and cool...do kids still say cool?? Either way, I think it's cool... ok now I am starting to sound old. Please enjoy all this eye candy on this snowy, blustery Friday!!

simple is sometimes best...

Sometimes simple black and white is just what feels best. It feels clean and modern and then for fun… why not throw in a touch of red! I have a red couch right now, and I loved it when I first bought it, but right now it does not match any of my decor at all. If I could have a do-over…I would have done something like this…
couch.pillow.curtains.chair.brick.lamp.painting.media unit.wall rack.coffee table.

I love all the simple shapes of this room that still give a large impact, and then the soft, look of the bright red couch is the perfect touch to make it still feel warm and cozy and not too stark. As a college student.. this was the look I was going for but never quite made it there… ever… cause I was poor… and spent all my money on beer… sorry mom!! Wow way off topic there..oops! I guess i'll let this design speak from here on out… enjoy!!

ps. I know that the curtains are actually shower curtains.. but they are still fabric and who says you can't break the rules now and then?

pps. We now have a structure in Winnipeg! So if you have a real hankering for that couch… it's local!!

what's not to love?!

Welcome to the second edition of… "What's not to love?!" Sometimes I get on a kick where I feel like there is nothing in my closet to wear (just like every other woman in america!!), and i peruse the internet wishing that I could purchase all kinds of things… and looking for deals on items that I just MIGHT convince myself I deserve. We are heading to Phoenix in a few weeks so I am really trying hard to not buy anything so I can shop till I drop down there! I have already decided that on a few things that I definitely want to come home with… A: a new purse, B: new shoes (duh!) and C: a new belt… and maybe a few other little accessories. These little ditty's definitely caught my eye and that purse!!! I know I don't need another yellow purse but it's just so damn pretty! I want it all… I WANT IT ALL! Ok, i'm calming down… please enjoy a few of my favourites as of late while I go and relax… and make a shopping list!

if only...I were single???

Yes, another nursery... no I am not pregnant! I feel the need to write that every time that I design a nursery... don't ask me why! This design started off when I visited the Restoration Hardware site. I LOVE Restoration Hardware. They have simple, classic designs. I love the soft feel that everything seems to have. Trolling through the rugs, this star pattern caught my eye. I love the whimsical yet adult feel it takes on. Thus, first thought?! Nursery! I enjoy nursery's that are not too childish, that have the potential to grow with the child. I understand that is not everyone's taste, but when I am designing a room for fun, i tend to lean toward my own taste. Anywho, lets get on with the show, shall we? Please enjoy my version of a "girly" modern nursery. Don't tell Steve, but if I were still single, this room (minus the crib of course) might just be what the doctor ordered!

g.l.a.m.o.r.o.u.s…...

Anyone else remember this Fergie song?! Glamorous glamorous!!! (You are singing it now aren't you?!) Ok, back to regularly scheduled programming. As you well know if you read this blog at all…my regular style is pretty relaxed. I like the casual feel for the most part. I thought I would really try and switch things up around here and go a little higher end….looking anyway! I think the purple velvet drapes do the trick, don't you?!

I heart arrows….apparently

Spoonflower…. now I know you have heard of it, or should I not assume that? If you haven't, go... it's a glorious site that offers thousands upon thousands of designs for fabric and or wallpaper. I just happened to be perusing the site and I was very drawn to arrow wallpaper. I am not sure what it is that I love so much… maybe just the simplicity? It's hard to say, but here are just a few of the ones that I was most drawn to. This first grey with white arrows?? Oh how I would love this pattern in a living room…oh or a dining room!! Or a nursery!! So sweet in a nursery!! You may just see this pattern in an upcoming design post… oh the ideas swirling through my head right now! So many ideas, not enough time!!

what i'm listening to...

I've got a solid mix of old and new on my phone right now. The start of a new year always brings me back to the classics...what's up with that? Obviously there is some George Strait in there... and Patty, love me some Patty. Lately I have also really been drawn to Scotty McCreery. I never really gave the guy a shot, but now that I have...I quite enjoy! His style is a lot older...and we all know I love me some old school country. I actually got to know him because of his song "See you Tonight".. I thought it was Dierks Bentley singing it, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out it was not!! Anywho, I hope you enjoy this random array of music I have put together. And give Scotty a try! He may surprise you too!!

birds of a feather...

Yes, another nursery… no, I am not pregnant! They're just so fun to design! Now this one has a few items from Anthropologie that I absolutely LOVE but they are not for the family on a budget! If I could splurge on one thing, I think it just might be that there chair! Ahhh Anthropologie, why must you tease us with such pretty things that are out of reach?!
