It has been awhile since I have given any sort of update on how our home is coming along... probably because progress is slow. But we are not going anywhere anytime soon (moving I mean!) so slow and steady works for us. I thought you might like to see a little update of what we HAVE done because we have done a lot, just haven't been able to finish any one room!
Let's start in the living room. Here is what it looked like the last time you saw it...

We didn't even have a sofa... That seems like so long ago! Well, I have good news.. we have a place where we can both sit now! I no longer have to sit on Steve's lap in the rocking chair while watching the TV on the floor. Here's where we are at now...

It's not even close to being done, but we're working on it! The curtains have got to go and I have new ones sitting in the wings but they need to be hemmed and I would like to move the curtain rods up and paint them too! The list for this room is long. I cannot WAIT to get a coffee table, and or make one. I'd like another couple of chairs besides the rocking chair, but I am not entirely sure the layout will work with that. The sofa needs to be moved back against the wall, and I want to try my hand at some sort of pipe shelving unit for the wall behind the sofa eventually. The TV needs to go up on the wall (but i'd like to paint first!) and then I want to frame the TV in a gallery wall! I think the biggest thing in this room right now is that there are no real touches of "us". We have nothing hanging on the walls, all our decorative accents are still in boxes. I think my main issue with this room is I am having a really hard time trying to decide what to do for a wall color. Do I keep it simple and clean and white? Or do I give some character and try a color? Do I paint all the walls the same color? UGH... I find it so much easier telling someone else what they should do to their home, but when it comes to my own, I have too many ideas and too many thoughts! What do you think? Should I stick with the color scheme I had thought about here? Would love your feedback!

Next week i'll give you a peak into the bedroom... It's at least painted!

What's not to love?!

It's been awhile since i've shared with you what I am loving lately! Here are a few of my favorite things!

1. I am in love with Mid Century Modern furniture right now. Is it a fad? Can it be if it has stood the test of time? This chair would be fantastic in our living room!
2. I am also in love with cross body bags. I have one very similar to this one that is black and white stripe among the leather. It's getting a little dirty so.... that means new purse time, right?!
3. Ok, Anthropologie? You are AH-MAZE-ING in the hardware department...ok every department, but especially hardware! This knob? Are you kidding me? Gorgeous! Like jewellery for your furniture!
4. Not often do I wear dresses, but I love this silhouette and all I keep thinking is how perfect it would be for our upcoming honeymoon. I'm picturing it now... a nice candle lit dinner at a restaurant on the beach.... I know what you are thinking.. they haven't gone on a honeymoon yet? No, we haven't... because when you live in Manitoba, you want to break up your winter with a nice vacation when you can!!
5. Of COURSE I have a throw pillow on the list! This one reminds me of something you'd see in your grandma's house, but she's a hip granny and she's got it thrown on some piece of Mid Century Modern furniture ;)
6. Last but not least, I know you've likely heard the news, but Minted has fabric now! What a perfect combination! LOVE!

week #3

I want to start this post off by apologizing in advance to my mother. Mom… I have found a new chocolate chip cookie recipe. It is not as good as yours but… it's damn good!
With that out of the way, my week #3 DIY is a cream cheese chocolate chip cookie recipe, and yes… it is as good as it sounds! These things will be gone in a matter of days.. Steve will make sure of it!
This is where I got the recipe from and these are how they were supposed to turn out…

Seriously, don't they just look amazing? Well they taste as good as they look! How can they not, they are made with cream cheese! Now here is my version… they do not look as good, but i'll work on that!

Well, this post needs to end because… i'm gonna… go and…
eat a dozen cookies?! Don't judge!

a little me time...

Not often do I share things about my personal life on this blog. I mean clearly you know my likes and dislikes when it comes to decor, but do you know much more than that I am married and live in a house? That's not a great first date let alone a year long relationship! So here it is… a little me time… Ready to find out a little about what makes me tick?
Or maybe you don't really care, and in that case just skip to the next blog post ;)

Lately I have been:

Watching - The Jet's games … duh. What self respecting Manitoba person is not watching them right now?

Reading - Save Me by Lisa Scottoline… it's only ok… but after having just read Amy Poehler's Yes Please and Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, not much is going to compare for awhile! (a full book report to come soon! I have been a reading machine lately)!

Eating - Well, I am not stuffing my face at this particular moment, but when I am, you will most likely find me eating the brownies that I made the other day. They… are… AH-Mazing! I cannot take all the credit though because it is my mom's recipe! Thanks Mom!

Thinking - About how to perfect this thing called blogging. Ok maybe not perfect, but definitely become just a little bit …better… more professional… more technologically savvy… about it!?

Dreaming about - A vacation… more specifically, our honeymoon. We have nothing booked yet, but we have a place in mind and it's literally on my mind about 23 hours a day right now! Especially when it's -30C here, a white sandy beach sure eases the pain!

Obsessing over - What kind of coffee table to get for our living room! Currently we are using TV tables… yes TV tables, as coffee tables… and side tables for that matter! These are a few that i've been considering, but just can't "pull the trigger" on one yet…

Well there you have it! Do you feel like you know me a touch better? Are we friends yet? Slowly i'll open up my heart and my mind to you all… however you might not wanna get too deep into this head… you may find some things that scare you a touch ;)
Wishing each and every one of you a very happy weekend full of lots of windshield wiper fluid and maybe even a little bit of sunshine?! (If you are from the province of Manitoba you will catch my drift)!

happier hump day...

Happy Wednesday! To brighten up this hump day a bit, some bedroom eye candy! It has been gloomy around here lately. Not only have inside (I hate being sick!) but outside as well! I know it's only the end of January, but I am already looking forward to Spring! A bit ahead of myself? Quite possibly!
Anyway, instead of wishing for Spring, I decided to design a bright bedroom to cheer myself up! Something about simple, clean, large pieces in a room, paired with bright, bold accents. Truly it's a no brainer sometimes!

First of all, this bedding? I have had a crush on it for a loooongggg time. I can only ever find it from a store in Australia. Why do they get all the good stuff?? If anyone knows where it can be found in North America, please let me know!

Did you enjoy this design? Please check out more here, here, or here!

week #2

Well, week #2 project down! 50 more to go! Last week I wanted to try something a little more creative. This project was sooo easy. I picked up a $12 sweatshirt from walmart, and a little patch of fabric, also from walmart! Literally the cost of the project was about $15! Here's what I started with...

Could I make it look anymore boring? It's a very plain sweatshirt, but I love plain... most of my clothes are pretty neutral. This however.. was the perfect piece to add a little touch of something to.. nothing much, but something..
My DIY's are going to start out pretty simple, until I get into a groove. I truly thought that this was the perfect place to start. I found the tutorial, well not really a tutorial, but inspiration for it here.
Now I am by no means a pro sewer, but I know a few things.. so this was not a hard project for me, but it sure was my creative juices flowing! Here is the improved, plain jane sweatshirt now!

See, nothing overly exciting! But a nice little change. I might even add a couple of elbow patches at some point! Maybe in a different fabric? This was a super easy DIY, and literally all I did was cut out the patch, fold down the edges, and stitch it on. I used some embroidery thread that I had laying around to stitch it on. I wanted the stitching to really pop...

All in all, I think it's a cute little update. And no one else has one like it... isn't that the best part? What do you think? Will you give it a try? I'm trying to think of some other plain jane clothes in my closet that I can update now too!

a little under the weather...and I love this because...

I am sick, and when i'm sick I get super bored...there's only so much Food Network, and HGTV that a person can watch! The fact that I even feel like blogging right now is a miracle!! I'm on the mend!! YAY! Today I want to talk about a beautiful trend that is popping up lately..half painted walls. I AM going to try this in some room in our home someday... i'm thinking in a spare bedroom? I think it's such a simple way to add an architectural feel to a room! This is one of my favorite versions....

There is sooo much I love about this room... first of all, that color? I love that they used such a grown up color in a little girl's nursery, it's so perfect! Second, of course, the way they painted. I think not going up the entire wall with the paint really kept it from feeling too dark in the room, and gave the walls much more interest and makes them the star of this room!

With the walls being such a focal point, the rest of the room is decorated very simply, and I love simple, clean design! The basics. I also love that they have mixed in eclectic, antique pieces with new design elements. Always a winner in my books!

Happy Friday everyone! Hope everyone has a happy, healthy weekend! (I can't wait to take a warm vacation and get out of this "cold" infested country)!!

one piece, two looks...

Hello all, hope you had a fabulous weekend! I have a great plan for week #2 of my new year's resolution... I think I need a name for it.. i'll have to work on that! Anyway, it'll be coming to you later this week, but for now, please enjoy a new version of one piece two looks...

crib**pendant**curtains**rug**dresser**rocking chair**heart**arrow**never

I love the whimsical feel that the chair has in a nursery space. The feather pendant certainly adds to the whimsy, but to be honest... the feathers freaked me out at first. Like really? feathers? won't they catch on fire or something? But I don't care, they work so well! Ok, I would care if my home started on fire, but there's no way they would sell it if it weren't safe correct?! RIGHT?!

sofa**rocking chair**pendant**happy pillow**bookshelf**coffee table**side table**purple pillow**throw**beautiful place

In a living room, I feel the rocking chair gives off an entirely different vibe. More of a bohemian feel! Especially when paired with a velvet, mustard sofa... ummm yes please! If you like what you see here... feel free to check out a few more versions of one piece, two looks here, here, and here!

gallery ideas #3

I think a lot of people think that a gallery wall has to just be photos. It's so much more than that sometimes! Granted just photos or prints can be gorgeous, but sometimes if you look "beyond the end of your nose" (as my mom would say), you can find other beautiful pieces that will hang on your wall! See below…

The blue coasters? Gorgeous on a wall! By the by, everything here is again from Etsy. I know I use Etsy a lot but it has truly become such an amazing place for artisans of all types to sell amazing pieces! I swear I could furnish an entire home with Etsy! (Possible future challenge?! Hmmmmm) Check out other gallery wall ideas here & here!

week #1...

If you have been following along, (here) I have taken on a personal challenge of sorts for 2015. I have decided that once a week, I will try some sort of DIY from my Pinterest pages. Something that I have pinned and then never actually made. Here is week #1...

Chicken and Roasted Garlic Risotto. I have wanted to try my hand at risotto for awhile, so to start on the right path, I am trying and "easy" version first... doesn't it look delish!? Well here is my version...

Sorry for the shitty photo quality! I'll get better, I swear!

I have to say... it was DELISH! I HIGHLY recommend it and it was SO easy! like rather ridiculously easy. I know real risotto takes more time, but I think making this just gave me the push to try and make the real thing because the reward will be far greater than the effort!

Week one down, 51 weeks to go! Next week will hopefully be a bit more crafty!

killin it...

I happened to pop into Home Sense this past weekend, and may or may not have picked up a couple baskets for the entry (crossing my fingers that they work). While I was in there, I had a little look around.. of course. May I just say that...Home Sense is KILLING IT right now with furniture and accessories! Seriously. Check it out!

So I want this chair… I have no idea where I would put it but I want it. in. my. life.

Two of my very favorite things…velvet and tufting, and in an ottoman. I'd also like this piece in my life. Oh and those legs? Not actually red, just a cover, they are wood. However, the red could work!

Little short story for you. Steve and I bought a white coffee table the other day, and it does NOT work in our living room. I really thought that it would! Now I am thinking that we need another texture, another element. I'm leaning towards wood or metal. This table? It might actually work..

If we do a wood coffee table, this side table would work perfectly! Ugh, see? I told you Home Sense was knocking it out of the park!

How cute would this be in a little girl's room?

In my humble opinion? You can NEVER have too many throw blankets. Especially when it's a frosty -37C outside my window right now!

Ok, this did not have a price tag on it.. which was probably a good thing because otherwise it would have been in my car and on it's way home with me. I'm pretty sure this would work in almost any room! I'd make it work!
