a little more me time...

I was inspired today by this post and thought I would share a bit more about myself... you aren't sick of me yet, are you?!

Currently: I am still trying to figure out what color/s to paint our living room. Why is it that I can decide 100x over what color someone else should or should not paint their house, but when it comes to my own, it's next to impossible!? I am leaning towards a very bright blue accent wall, and then keeping the rest of the room bright and airy (white most likely) but i'm worried that the accent wall is dying out?! Is it? please tell me no?!

In the Past: I used to be pretty scared of the dark.... and now?! If you ask Steve he would die laughing at this because he knows how much I love the dark now when sleeping. Normally it is not dark enough and I end up throwing my arm over my eyes and sleeping that way. Anything to make it just a little darker. I tell you this, because I am trying to find curtains for our bedroom and I want them to be pretty but I also want them to darken the room! It's a tough combo to find I tell ya!

In the future: I hope to be sitting at a beautiful, hand made, rustic wooden table while typing up my blog instead of this folding table that I am currently sitting at. I truly cannot wait for that day! Come on STEVEN!!!!

And now, because I am officially dreaming about a new dinner table, here are a few inspiration photos for you...and Steven...

what's not to love?!

It's finally spring over here in Manitoba! I assume that like every other girl in the world, a new season brings along with it the urge to shop! Who am I kidding, I want to shop all the time! Spring is just a good excuse! The following are on my spring wish list and all come from Etsy, where else?

I am truly in LOVE with country music, but that's not a very big secret! This tank is honestly so beyond perfect for me! Everyone deserves a treat, right? I might just!

Florals are growing on me... pun intended! Fabulous florals like this? Perfect!!

I need succulents in my life. I am patiently waiting for our living room to be finished so that I can start to add personal touches! I am terrible with greenery, but I think I could handle these little cuties!

A giant clothespin? ABSOLUTELY!!!

I am obsessed with mid century modern furniture right now.. I think if you read this blog even remotely regularly you are well aware of this fact! When it's mustard yellow, it's even better!! This chair would love to be in my living room, I just know it!

Friends... the greatest TV show of all time... according to.. ME! I love everything friends related, but especially this. It's modern and creative. This entire Etsy shop is actually fantastic!

Christy Studio on Etsy has been one of my favorites for a long time! She has simple pieces, but that's just the way I like them! This would be a fabulous addition to my purse collection!

Confession time: I took more than one week off on my weekly projects! but the good news?! I'm back!! This week, I wanted to try something that I have never ever done before... blueberry muffins.
I love muffins, but I don't make them very often...i'm not entirely sure why! I also do not eat blueberries very often. It's not that I don't like them, I just don't love them on their own. So why not combine the two and make something that is normally mediocre, to me, into something that is absolutely scrumptious?!

Please ignore our hideous countertop...did you know it's linoleum? I don't know if I have ever mentioned that before, likely because you have never even seen a picture of our kitchen.. but yes, it's linoleum. We have flooring as our countertop. Granted, it's very durable, but it's hideous.

Now how glorious do these look? I am going to have to make muffins more often because these were SUPER easy to make. And they really are as good as they look! The strudel on top... it's glorious.. just glorious! Please try this recipe. Your significant other, or friends, or family will be very thankful that you did! I promise ;)

Find the recipe here.

a calming girl crush...

I've been really quiet over here lately. Since returning from holidays, I have found it extremely hard to get back into any sort of routine. Have you ever felt like you needed a vacation after your vacation?! Jumping back into reality is hard, but don't get me wrong.. I am truly thankful that we have the luxury of being able to travel! Our vacation was amazing and I could not be more thankful to get a break! Now that i'm back, the creative juices are flowing, but the side of my brain that still wants to relax clearly has some influence on those creative juices right now!

This bedroom... it feels so calming. Can't you just imagine being curled up in that chair, sun shining, waves crashing the beach... oh sorry, went back into vacation mode there for a second! Damn I miss the sound of the ocean waves!

Now enough talk about the it's making me slightly depressed. Can we please talk about this painting? I know I say it all the time, but Etsy is truly becoming a place for insanely talented people. It has become a haven for designers to be able to find one of a kind pieces and I could not be happier about it! The talent is incredible, and especially in this painting! How talented is Lola Donoghue?! Here are a few of her other amazing pieces that I would love, LOVE to have in my home!

Clearly I have a bit of a girl crush on Lola and her talent! Trust me, you will too! Check her out here!

gallery ideas #5

I am currently sitting on a beach in Mexico, but I still manage to think about my home and all the things that still need to be done to it. However, I also think about all the things that we HAVE been able to accomplish. There is a long road ahead, but we are making progress and that's what counts! Now that we are painting the living room, it's coming together really quickly and i'm starting to think about the finishing touches! Like the gallery wall behind the TV. This is the kind of thing that I have in mind for it...

It's rather simple, and the color pallet is very monochromatic, but I think it would break up that wall and break up the color very nicely. I look so forward to having the living room done and just being able to enjoy it... another room to check off the list will feel glorious!

and we're off...

My hubby and I are on our way here....

I have a couple of posts planned for the week, but for the most part I will be sipping beer and reading on the beach for a week and will be enjoying every single minute of it! I hope wherever you are, you are having a fabulous week too!
Have a fabulous Monday!

week# 7

Since this is my blog... I figure that I get to make all the rules! So since we are in Mexico, I am officially skipping week #8's project. Or maybe I should just consider reading on a beach my "project" for the week! Either way, when I get back, it'll be back to normal routine and the projects will commence again!
As for last week's project, I sort of tried something new? I have done crossstitching before, but I have not done it in a VERY long time. I mean, I was crossstitching Winnie The Pooh that last time... and I am 31 now, so you can imagine how long ago that was!
Crossstitching has come a really long way, and I wanted to try my hand at it again.. freestyle. There are a ton of tutorials online, but the one that was the simplest to start with is this one. Hearts are a simple freehand way to start and it was very simple and it makes me really want to try something a little more difficult! A new hobby? I think so!

Here's the finished product!

i love this because....

Frankly, there isn't that much not to love about this loft! If you'd like, you can check out the entire loft here... but I have chosen to focus on the living room. The first thing that caught my eye were the amazing, herringbone patterened, hardwood floors! They add so much warmth to the space! I also love how they are not afraid to play with the height in this space. The gallery wall, the hanging planter, and what you can barely see in the corner of these pictures, is a swing! Seriously, if I had a loft, i'd have a swing too!

I am absolutely picturing myself lounging on that sofa in that nice groove there, curled up in that blanket reading a good book. In my opinion, a great space is one that you can picture yourself living in. A great space gives you a warm feeling and makes your heart skip a beat. This loft? It just does it for me!

what's not to love?!

Warning: I am going to brag a bit in the next couple of sentences...
In six days, Steve and I are off to the Mayan Riviera, Mexico for our honeymoon. Didn't we get married months ago though, you ask? Why, yes, we did! But here in Manitoba, you save those warm trips for the months when it's so cold here, your snot freezes.. too far?! You get the idea though right? Needless to say, I am very excited!!

Now, no more complaining about the cold.. I swear.. instead? A new what's not to love!

1. I am currently obsessing over finding "prints" to go on our living room wall in the very near future. I especially love ones that are encouraging like this...

2. I think I have been living under a rock, because I only recently stumbled upon Prairie Proud...a Manitoba based company that makes.. well.. prairie proud clothing! I HAVE to have this sweatshirt!

3. This book absolutely, 100% lives up to all the hype! It is full of simple, amazing ideas! The girls from A Beautiful Mess outdid themselves and are truly an inspiration to me... ok i'll stop gushing!

4. I don't wear jewelry very much, but when I do, they are simple, beautiful pieces like this..

5. Who doesn't need a striped tote with leather pockets?! I know I do!

6. I do NOT have a green thumb, but if I believe I would take care of a plant if it was in a fabulous planter like this...

7. Yes please... let's do... and cuddle on the sofa with this pillow...

wanna stay awhile?

I've been thinking a lot about our guest rooms lately... we have two currently, and they were both just sort of thrown together with leftover furniture. Some of it is beautiful furniture, don't get me wrong, but there isn't really a style to either room. I picture a guest room to be fresh, inviting and have all the necessities that one might need to feel comfortable and at home... here's a rather eclectic version for you...

Confession... this post actually started out as a "what's not to love" post. I found the dresser and geometric pillow on Etsy and then... well... it appeared to go really well together so a guest bedroom it became.
I picture bright white walls in this room, no clutter, and only one piece of artwork on the walls to let the beautiful pieces of furniture speak for themselves!
The artwork is by far my favorite piece in this room. It's done by a local artist whom I love. She is extremely talented and her work is seen more and more throughout the world. I have a few pieces of her's in my home too!
The copper pendant? I am beyond tempted to purchase for our own bedroom.. so gorgeous, and they add a beautiful warmth to the entire room. Would you want to spend the night here?
