where to start...(office inspiration)

Our office... ..... .... I don’t know where to begin... I love having an office space, but I rarely use it... why?? Well it’s in our basement for one. Two, it’s very un inspiring. So what’s my plan? Make it inspiring!! It has hoards of storage, but not the most useful storage. I HATE the countertop, so it might just get a paint job for now? Have you ever painted a counter? Pinterest research it is!! I also want to take down the “box” situation that would have housed a very old computer. That is just unnecessary and I’d like to put some boards up maybe? Inspiration boards?
I really need to use this space more and just turn off the tv and sit and write, that’s the ultimate plan. Oh and the floor in here... UGH. If i knew for sure that i could rip up this carpet without there being a pile of glue stuck to the cement floor, i’d do it. But my fear is that it will not come up clean. I’d just paint the floor in there and maybe put a rug down! Where did one get such dark, rather ugly carpet at one time!?
I definitely need to figure out the storage... What you cannot see in this picture is that there are bookshelves over the desk area to the left. I love the bookshelves and plan on having them full of books someday and they are a great place to store magazines, but the lower shelves are mostly just open. A filing system would be ideal... but I have yet to figure out how to make that happen, in an inexpensive way!!
Currently this "office" is more of a dumping ground for things that don't belong anywhere else in the house! I have tried a couple of times to organize things and make the space a bit more inviting, but it just isn't working... yet. Maybe once we get Steve's man cave finished, I will feel inspired to be down there more and work on making that one room in the basement all mine!
In the mean time, I have been hitting up Pinterest for inspiration and easy ways to vamp up this room without spending hoards of money...

I love this plank wall, it would be so simple and such a statement... and of course it would tie in the rest of our house... remember the dining room?

here

I definitely want to have some sort of an inspiration wall... I love the look of this one. Simple, yet bright and cheery! I'm already feeling inspired!

PAINT!!! The most frugal way to update a room! I love stripes... I love any shape really that's painted on a wall. I will likely end up using a lot of paint in this room to counteract all the wood and the ugly carpet! Ugh... that carpet really does give me nightmares!

here

Another AMAZING inspiration board. And I would love to swap out all that wood for this sleek, beautiful desk space! Much more inspiring! (I might miss all the storage though!!)

Which one is your favorite? Do you have any other inspiration for me? Any ideas? I'll take ANY and ALL suggestions on what to do with the carpet... broken record much?

color vibes...

You know when you get a super good fitting pair of jeans? How you just want to wear them all the time, every hour of every day. They just make you feel like a million bucks, am I right? Well, why not add some of that love into other areas of your life?
I want to start a new little series around here... color vibes. Sometimes I get so inspired by a certain color and then I see it pop up everywhere and I fall in love, and I want to share that love with you! I figured why not start somewhere old school...an old gem of a color scattered into everyday, modern life!

There is something about denim that is so timeless and so easy to incorporate into d├ęcor. I mean it's basically a neutral! How did that ever come to pass? I mean have you ever really thought about it? How did a hard blue fabric ever become a staple for every single person? How has it NEVER gone out of style? **Thinking out loud**
Excuse me while I go and sort through my jean collection, and decide which ones I will be ripping up to make one of those little vases!

walk in the woods...

Good morning! Happy Monday...I think? It's so hard to want to get up on Monday's in the summer, isn't it? Knowing that you have to go to work all day instead of going to the beach to soak up the sun... or in my case, the lake! I seem to always have the lake on my brain lately and this room kinda, sorta proves that!
Slight sidetrack: When I first bought my condo, I had a hard time trying to figure out what to do in my bedroom... and then I took a trip to Mexico with a couple of girlfriends. I loved it SO much and I didn't ever want to leave so I decided right then and there that my bedroom needed to be a constant reminder of the beauty of the beach and that bright blue water. So what did I do? I painted the walls a beachy, sandy color, and then I painted the wall behind my bed a beautiful oceany turquoise and plopped a palm tree decal off to the side. I LOVED IT! It was so calming and peaceful to me and in the middle of our frigid winters it was a nice little escape. It was definitely nothing fancy, but on my measly budget, it was perfect for me. And now? Now I would love to decorate a room to be a constant reminder of the relaxation that I feel when I'm at the lake!

It feels so refreshing, so peaceful, so homey. And that map? It just needs to be Canadian and it would be perfect ;)
I am slightly in love with Wear Joy Bird furniture, you can pick from so many different sofas and chairs and then basically customize them to fit your own space... they have a bazillion different fabric swatches and it sometimes boggles my mind! I am super tempted to try them out for myself for real someday! I have yet to discover if they ship to Canada though! I wish you Americans would share your great products with us Canadians more often!! While I'm at it, if you Australians, New Zealanders, and basically all Europeans can share with us too that'd be fantastic! Thanks!

a little me time...

It has been rather quiet around the blog lately, but I have a good reason for that, I swear! Steve and I have been relaxing, and by relaxing I mean RELAXING, at the lake for the last ten days. It has truly been glorious and a much needed break from reality!

Isn’t it beautiful? Can you really blame us for shutting off from the outside world to enjoy this view?! I truly look forward to this week every year. It allows us both to recharge our batteries, and prepare to take on the world again… aka real life.
On our week off, I managed to read a couple books, including Every Fifteen Seconds, by Lisa Scottoline, and Outside the Lines, by Amy Hatvany...

It took a little bit to get into Every Fifteen Minutes, nothing terribly exciting happens until about a third of the way in … but after that it really caught my attention and kept hold. It was a perfect lake read. I can honestly say that I did not see the ending coming and usually I have a pretty good idea of what’s going to happen at the end of a novel… but this one shocked me!
Outside the lines was a really quick read, but it was quite good. Hatvany gives her readers insight into mental illness, and the struggles that both parties face when a loved one has mental illness. I truly recommend!

Steve spent most of his time watching James Bond…. From the beginning. I do not want to insult any James Bond fans, and don’t get me wrong, I have watched the newer movies and have loved them, but the old ones were rather cheesy… Not only in their cinematic quality but their story lines too. They’ve come a long way!
I must admit that I did glance up from my book quite often to see what was going on during the movies, however, it was mostly to stare at a young and extremely handsome Sean Connery.

Steve celebrated his 33 birthday while we were at the lake as well, so we headed into Kenora, the nearest town, and had lunch at our favorite spot… Lake of the Woods Brewing Company. Yes it’s a brewery, but it’s also a restaurant. They took the old fire hall, and turned it into a brewery/restaurant. The atmosphere is that of a pub, but it’s very family oriented as well. We both highly recommend it when/if you are ever in the Kenora area!

Now however, it’s back to reality. Back into the swing of things, working on our home. We are currently discussing when we are going to start demo of the kitchen and that excites me greatly! It’s amazing what a week off from the world can do for a person! Our motivation is back, now if only our pocket books could agree with all the work we have left to do ;) anyone else have this issue?! Maybe I’ll go buy a lottery ticket….
